OK, This may be a dumb question, but I guess it will validate my screen name…
I often misjudge the tides and find myself paddling against the current. Should I bother trolling an artificial against the current? It seems that whenever I’ve caught fish while trolling, it’s been while drifting with the current.
Hey Novice
Here’s a web site that might help you with your tide problem; http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/scarolinasites.html
Some might say that a bait in the water is better than no bait in the water. In theory, large fish waiting to ambush bait fish will be facing the current, waiting for the bait fish to be swept to it with the current. So if you’re trolling up current your bait will come up the backside of the large fish, not looking/acting natural at all, same applies to casting, you want to cast up current and retrieve it down current.
Stinky
I really can’t argue with natural presentation, however, I have caught fish trolling both directions and it really doesn’t seem to matter that much. Like fingers said, if the bait ain’t in the drink, it ain’t gona git hit.
Thats why they call it fishing, not catching
Thanks for the tide link & the responses - very helpful!
