Trolling Wed NIght

Took out a friend from work, along with a visitor we have here from India, for a site seeing cruise late yesterday afternoon. Dropped them back off at the dock at 7:30 and killed a little time before setting up to troll about 8:15 or so.

Just as Rick’s pics showed from the night before, it was another absolutely gorgeous evening with a beautiful sunset over a glass smooth lake.

Pic looks foggy, but it turned out I has some moisture on my phone’s lens.

I started off just kicking back and heading up the river channel, but marked few fish and didn’t have any takers. About 10PM I mover to some shallower water and worked some points and humps in 55-90 fow. Should have done that earlier as I started marking lots of fish and got my first one about 10:15. Worked the same area and although the fish weren’t committing suicide, I would pick one up now and then until I got #5 just before midnight.

All were caught in the 40’-50’ range. Biggest was 27" and the others looked to be 21"-23".

Bluesman, I just pull 2 rods whether I’m by myself or have others on the boat. I use 9’ downrigger rods w/ TLD15’s spooled with 20 lb mono. The reel is a bit of overkill, but I have them for king fishing anyway and it keeps me from having to change over a couple of my bait rods when I want to troll. You can double stack and add a second rod to each downrigger, but I don’t mess with that.

I don’t care for lead core, but if you have them, I’m sure you can get them that way too…I would guess about 8-12 colors right now depending on what you are pulling
