Were able to talk the wives and my sons fiancé into going fishing with the good forecast. Rounded big bay creek at 0530 for a nice ride and even better sunrise. Put in in 250ft. Found a current slick in 300ft with scattered weeds and hooked a stud bull. Put my future daughter in law on the road and he didn’t make it easy, sounding and making her haul him up for a full 30 minutes. He brought two buddies along that we could not get to eat, even with live bait. Regrouped and hooked a double in the same spot. The bigger of the two was foul hooked and pulled the hook right at the boat. This eventually formed into a decent weedline but we had to head inshore away from a storm. XM weather is great btw. Shows the storm and it’s direction of motion so you can just drive away. Had a sailfish come up on the dredge and take the flat line circle hooked ballyhoo. Made a perfect drop back but he threw the hook on the first jump. From there just picked at slingers and a couple of peanuts. Ended up with 6 keepers and s couple of cud’s. Pretty good action for this time of year.
PSA- if you are going to have a long conversation, please switch off 68 to another channel. It’s very easy to do and a courtesy to your fellow fishermen. Thank you.
I took my boat out Saturday offshore for the first time and we had a blast bottom fishing.
please share some more details about how you are using xm weather.
Their marine package isn’t cheap. Was wondering if I could run the weather app thru an iPhone offshore outside of cell range.
You cannot run through I phone. Comes through MFD. updates NOAA weather radar including lightning strikes every five minutes. Gives storm direction and speed plus forecast. Can access buoy info, wind speed and direction and wave direction. Also has SST which is great for trolling early in the year. This only updates every six hours as that is how often the satellite passes, and SST info is available online for free. You can also suspend service for up to six months at no cost to reactivate for the off season.
Sounds like I am selling the service. I am not. Have just had a few trips where it was really helpful recently.
FortunateSon. Saw your boat Friday night at the Edisto Governor’s Cup stop. Boat looked great. And I think you probably had the best dressed crew
Thanks. You should have come by and said hello. Would love to put a name with the face. Friday was our lay day so we were all clean. They put on a great event, even more fun for us as a local boat.

That’s some good dolphin fishing for late July. Good job.
