trolling

So I’m new to kayak fishing for anything but sheepshead. What type of lures do you guys like to troll for trout and reds? I’ve been using a rattle trap and a soft paddle tail. Any other tips would be great. Thanks guys

I like to use a 1/4-oz jighead and a paddletail-type plastic. As far as color goes, I have had luck with the root beer/chartreuse, new penny, and white for catching trout.

I have trolled with a 1/4 oz jighead and a mud minnow. Have caught trout and reds doing so.

Sorry for the rookie question but when y’all say trolling do you mean cast and retrieve or are you casting out and paddling through the water fast enough to keep the lure moving through the water?

Cast out, secure the rod/reel in a rod holder and paddle…at least that is what I do. Set the drag fairly loose as you will get hung up.

Thanks making sure. Hadn’t considered trolling in the kayak.

I figure if you are paddling from point A to fish at point B, you might as well cover the area in between on the way.
