Was having a discussion with a friend of mine today on the subject of trout fishing. In SC how big would you say a trout has to be to be considered a trophy trout?

I had a 13 year old catch a 7lbs slab last year. I explained to him that the chances of him ever catching another trout that size in South Carolina would 99% sure would never happen again. The best part he released it to mkae more big boys.
Big 18 trophy 23 monster 25 call the press 28 inches I ve caught a 19 that was almost 5lbs most 22s I’ve caught were like 4lbs.
I have caught 1 that was 27" I didn’t weigh it though.
I’d say anything over 5lbs. That’s a gator here.
Ya it’s a little misleading to judge by weight since they gain so much at spawning time. Length is probably a better measure. I’d say 24+ is a trophy, IMO

I’m trying to set the bar so I can get over it, but Opti keeps raising it again!

He’s good for that!
I have to agree with the 4lb or 22in+ area for the ‘Gator Tout’ class to me. But it’s like asking what’s a ‘bull red’? I say over 36in but some say 40in and others say 30+…Optiker is gonna say 41in+ watch LOL
