Trouble replacing Bilge Pump - automatic to manual

So I am replacing my automatic bilge pump with a standard 2 wire pump w/ no float switch. I simply want to be able to turn the pump on/off manually from the console.

The old auto pump had three wires - 1 directly to battery, 2 up to the console. Well when I connect the new pump directly to the wires heading to the console, it will not respond. The switch is a ‘3way switch’ i believe, but it only worked in one direction. I know this is a simple circuit, but what the hell am I missing here?

Thanks…PB

check your fuse?

run the ground straight to the battery
replace the switch with a simple on/off
make sure you have power at teh switch

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

The wire to the battery was probably the ground, so now your circuit is ungrounded. Try connecting the new pump to the battery wire and one of the other ones, the switch should work in one position or the other …

the wire to the battery was actually a positive lead with a small in line fuse… thanks for the replies and ideas. Will report back.

That was the lead for the float. Connect the brown wire to the other brown wire and that is the hot lead to the switch and then black to black for the ground
