Troubleshooting... Need advice

When we were fishing this weekend a previously not-so important problem really became an issue. The main power to my Garmin has never really felt like it latched in correctly. Whenever we hit a large wave offshore it will just cut off and I have to restart the machine. This used to be something that happened every couple hours and never really bothered me. But when ALL the waves are big (Saturday) it is a problem. Any ideas? Should I try and get a new power cord? Anybody else have this issue?

My second dilemma is the curtains on the boat. For whatever reason they were taken off by the other owner for a season. When I went to put them back on they aren’t large enough to stay on all the snaps and still zip. Does anyone know what I should do about this?
Thanks for any information you can give to help!

For your Garmin problem check the inline fuse, they tend to loose connection on hard jolts when its rough out

But I feel like it is a problem with the actual connection coming loose because I sometimes have to push the connection back in

Try laying your curtains on the deck for an hour or 2 before you snap them back on and get them good and hot. stretch them a little and see if they fit a little better. on cooler days use a hair drier.

Have you tried this before? I may have to finally get that heat gun I need

I had a garmin unit that would do the same thing. Any interruption in the power supply cuts the unit all the way off. I took a small hose clamp and tightened it over the wire connector on the back of the unit and that fixed the problem.

Let me ask this, are you talking about the clear plastic curtains or
cloth material mooring cover? If plastic Heat makes a big differance.
Fold a curtain up and bring it out on a cold winter trip ( when we could catch something in the winter)and I promise you, you will have a hard time getting it to fit. Be very careful with a heat gun they get way too hot, a curling iron ( don’t tell your wife) works better.

That's a great idea I will certainly try it. Thanks so much

I’m talking about the clear curtains around the T-Top of the boat

Here’s an old standby, but it worked for me; if it isn’t the inline fuse, then check for the battery connections being real tight. Sounds simple, but it is the most likely suspect, I am told.

I had to replace the whole fuseable link in my Garmin, not just the fuse. It had been cutting off at times also. Now no more.

Mine did the same thing. I finally took the dash off and wiggled all the connections. It’s been better.

Thanks guys. The inline fuse information led me to check mine on my Lowrance unit. It would work part time and cut off and other times not work at all, and finally quit completely. I tightened all fuse holders and connecting sleeves. The darn thing works again. Well now I have a new $1350 Hummingbird Side Scan unit that is not needed. Wish I had read this thread before shelling out the cash.
