Finally got into some trout! Fast action with white gulp shrimp on a popping cork at Bulls Island. Primary and secondary points. Tons of rat reds too. Gonna try them again in the AM. If I can net some cob mullet I’ll run up to Winyah Bay for some bulls….come on fall!!!

Boy that’s a nice one in that top pic. I have tried and tried gulp shrimp and have never had any success. Glad someone is.

Bob (of trout trick fame) told me on several occasions that the “trick” to the trout trick was to fish the bait so as to induce a reaction bite…
…reel a few cranks while raising the rod tip slightly, then let the bait dead fall.
repete as necessary
Bob is long gone now, but I think of him every time I see a big trout like that.

I have used gulp shrimp for just about as long as they have been around. I have found them to be an excellent bait for trout, reds, and hog fish. All that being said, I don’t think I have ever had any luck using them under any kind of float. They work great, for me, on most any kind of jig head but especially on TT’s. I was always thinking it was just my lack of understanding on how to fish them under a float. 2X on reeling it up and then letting it fall and hang on!
I have done well with and love fishing with trout tricks, gulp, not so much.
Same action today on the gulp and popping cork. But more rat reds than trout. I did catch a 18” red on Smokey Shad with 1/8 trout eye. Gonna try for some bulls tomorrow. 7 hrs fishing. I’m exhausted. But it’s a good kind of tired!!

The gulp we used had been laying in the bottom of my boat for 2 years! They were so old the white had turned light brown!

Congrats on the trout. I gave a big bag of 100 original trout tricks to to Keith (Stilhunr) several years ago but kept a few and they work well. Zman Trout Trick in the original blue is good because of the durability. I just recently started using popping corks a little more than I used to and it’s fun plus I tore my rotator cuff on my casting arm.
The only negative on Gulp is man the pinfish will tear them apart so quick.
I’ve been using ZMan because where I fish the bluefish tear everything else apart or at very least bite the tails off.
I prefer the voodoo shrimp over the gulp 
. The price of all the stuff has gotten ridiculous over the last few years.
i’m typically on zman and vudu, but there is some magic about that gulp shrimp that gets bites. same with the gulp swimming mullet.
I use Opening Night,Also Pink and White twister.

Man I love those original trout tricks. There were days where I’ve caught over 100 trout on those things! I still keep about 30 at a time with my gear. Eye Strike still sells them at their shop and online!
