Could you give us some general details to help us out? Depths, water temp, in creeks, on flats, around docks?
Nice tri -
Ralph and I fished separately yesterday and both did very well on the trout too.
Personally, I found them in one stretch about 50 ft long and they were schooled up. It was very fun, really like a fall bite. Caught about 18 fish, all 16-18", nice fish. All released. Interestingly, there were a few reds in the mix too. I was fishing one of our jigs tied with a bucktail and they were hammering it! Brown/white. In about 2-5 ft.
Ralphs pic speaks for itself. Gonna be a great spring methinks.

HOLY SPECKLED YELLER MOUTH!!! That’s a fatty trout!
Earn it everyday
If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.
Thanks for the report and details on your day Optiker. Sounds like we just gotta keep covering water. We fished a flat 3-6 ft and creek 2-4 ft with a couple deep bends. Fished Trout Eye w/ z-man Jerk Shadz, Paddlerz, and Shrimpz and had a cut mullet on a popping cork out on the flat. Nada for us.
Yes andyb, that is mostly true for trout. Big Mike at Haddrells calls them “tiderunners” for a reason. Once you catch one, there are likely more around. When you hit a school like I did yesterday, the bite will turn off after a few fish, but you just move up or down the bank 100 feet and will usually start catching them again. Keep at it! With practice will come confidence.

Found these guys in the Ashley yesterday in 2-4 feet of water as well, but ours were only in thje 12-14inch range. Of all things, they wouldn’t touch our shrimp and were hitting MMs. Regardless, let the wild rumpus begin!

I fish out near bulls bay in a kayak and there’s no deep water.1-2 ft at low tide is where I catch the trout usually. I caught one small red with a mud minnow and spooked a bunch of others that didn’t want to bite, tried dead shrimp as well but the reds were still spooky. So I turned to trout and pulled a popping cork with a mud minnow and nothing. Then switched to a white doa over the edge of a oyster bank. Caught two and then it stopped for an hour. Interesting, when I caught the first of the two, the other followed behind like a cobia all the way to the boat. I guess looking for debris?
I tried my luck agian way back in the flats hoping to find hungry reds but nada. Back to the trout, I switched over to a darker brown doa and proceeded to catch about ten more within an hour. A few were around 13 inches but all the others were nice size 15 inches or more. I hope that is telling for the expected size this year! Once again the bite turned off and I went home. Fish bite was at an hour after low tide and two hours before high.
Water was dirty and felt much warmer than two weeks ago but no temp gauge on the yak.
I saw lots of activity in the water with minnows and grass shrimp jumping. Just looks so much more lively than just two weeks ago.
