Well done local boy. I think until last year’s cold winter, what we used to consider a once in lifetime trout was on the way up in size. Last Fall before the cold winter hit us, we had 2 trout at 25" in one day and on another day we had the biggest i’ve personally ever seen caught at 27". I think more anglers are becoming aware of releasing the big females. The first thing I said to my brother when he brought that 27" fish to the boat was you gotta put her back. Biggest of his life, but he agreed. We did not take a pic because I was too concerned about her health. I am not sure the releasing has contributed to the larger fish, but I am sure it has not hurt. I would not mind seeing a slot limit on them, I personally impose my own on myself, am not a big fan of more regs if DNR does not feel they are warranted. Everyone I talked to was voluntarily releasing their fish this past year so I hope we have a really good spring to show people how well a species can do if we “voluntarily” take care of that species.
2 at 25’ and 1 at 27 (2 days) is one thing. 40 over 17" and one or more 28" is quite another. BTW, congrats on the GATORS.

What whomever has in their hand is a 4 1/2 lb. trout. That is an awesome fish… but not 7-8 lbs.

Local Boy, what you’ve did is possible.
I targeted trout last Friday and Saturday between trips and caught half a dozen in less than 30 mins all over 17" largest at 23" both days. I’ve seen some really big trout over the past couple of weeks while scouting some areas around the harbor and cooper river. An 8lb trout isn’t hard to believe from what I’ve seen on the water the last couple of weeks. One group I saw had at least 8 over 7lbs in it.
From what I can tell we’re going to have a nice trout fishery this year. In hope’s that I can land some more like this one this year and best the boats personal best.
I’m glad you can tell that from a picture. But your wrong… It was measured and weighed.

I, for one, appreciate the report and the pertinent information therein. I dont give 2 poops if you have photographic evidence or not, I am just happy to read that the trout still exist and that my fellow fishermen are successful and generous enough to share their method, approach, and lure information so that I might have a better shot at catching some myself.
For the rest of yall, there are plenty of places where you can play “who’s got the biggest one” - if that’s your thing. Rad, I will check in the AM to see your update on all of your reports with time + date stamped tournament quality 10 megapixel+ fish photos with clearly visible regulation measuring sticks, independently verified, signed, dated, and notarized pls.

Nice!!! Thanks you!! Keep catching them Local Boy!
i’ve only caught one trout that big in my life. was 27 and one half inches long weighed 8 lbs even. trust me i took pictures. that was about 15 years ago and haven’t caught a bigger one yet.
green grass and high tides forever
jhp----- Murrells Inlet
YO John
That’s cause your using wrong bait!!
See ya need 1 lb jig with 12 inch. grub
Like to see that inshore rig tryin to throw that
John our last three trips out, in the last 2 weeks i would be happy to to get a bite!!! Sh*t the 12 inch grub is bigger than the fish i caught:smiley:
Don’t let’em beat you up on this John. You know what you caught and thats all that matters. Give me a call and we’ll go and maybe we will catch a few 30"ers. Check your PM.
Fishing is the chance to wash one’s soul with pure air.
I think anyone saying a 28-29 inch trout weighs 8 lbs is exaggerating the weight. I caught the biggest trout of my life two season ago (biggest one I’ve ever seen), and it was around 28 inches. It was a fat female and it was only 5.75 lbs on the Boga. Can’t imagine a similar length fish weight 2 lbs more.
Thanks guys, we did see quite a few schools and they were large like when my Dad and I fished together when I was growing up. But don’t take my word for it, you know someone who was born and raised here for the past 50 years, get out there and fish. God Bless
Back to the picture; I didn’t know Bass Assassin made that grub in 12 in. size - - it’s their new hot pattern, can’t remember the name right now, all I’ve seen is the 4" size.
Checked BassProShop catalogue - - looks like the Chicken on a Chain pattern, avilable in 4" length. They do make 6" and 9" plastic shad baits, but I did not see that pattern. You been fact-checked, but congrats anyway if you had a great day out there.
