Trout, bass and flounder

BeagleMan and I got a chance to do a little inshore fishing this week and came up with a nice mixed bag of fish. And a little shrimp too. Had a ton of fun catching them, thanks to our guide. I expected the spot tail bass and the trout, but the flounder was a treat. The bite was good and caught many to get these four keepers.

That’s a dang nice flounder. Is that a high tide boat you’re in? Looks just like mine…but cleaner.

Ratman! Good to see ya

That is a high tide, a friend of ours took us out.

RatMan was give out from a night of shrimping, sleeping in a different bed, and a day of fishing.

Glad yall had fun! I’d like to remind everyone that the DNR has asked a voluntary release of ALL trout this year. I know they are my favorite fish to eat too, but the coming years’ stocks are more important than one meal. I’ll be fishing in the Brett Maynard Memorial fishing tournament this saturday with the old man and while unfortunately the organizers did not take this into consideration, I can assure you no matter how big the trout is, our boat will not be doing anything more than snapping a quick photo.

wino, just FYI, the advisory was to expire on september 1… that’s because the spawning season for trout is winding down, and releasing trout up till then would’ve theoretically given all mature fish the chance to spawn this year. some of the fish born late this summer can actually spawn next year, some before they’re even a year old.

they won’t be doing any more reproducing till next may, so the stock is what it is until the 2011 YOY are big enough to contribute to the SSB next year… assuming we don’t have a third terrible winter in a row.

i know of two fall inshore tournaments that have kept trout on their list (excluding the one you mentioned)- the ones that took place during the summer pretty much all eliminated them from competition though.

Saw lots of trout 12" to 16" or so while gigging the other night, good sign.

Just to let you know, she had already laid out. Egg sacs were empty. I caught and released a good number of them just to keep that one. The bite was GOOD.

Here’s to a warm or at least normal winter. Screw this bs we have had for the last two years.

Farmer’s Almanac calls for this area to have warmer, wetter winter. . . sez Weather Channel. OK by me; we usually have a drought in winter.

While throwing the cast net for bait at Edisto yesterday I caught 6 or 7 very small trout over a wide area. I have never seen that before. Just coincidence or a good sign, I don’t know!
