Hello. What’s the deal on using trout bellies left from filleting for bait. I have never caught anything on them but crabs. I would think a redfish would like the fatty meat, but so far, no deal. Anyone else ever try them?
Good Luck!
That sounds nasty to fish with. I’ll save mine for crabs

I’ve heard of fish bellies being used when trolling for flounder. Never tried it myself.
just the white skin cut into strips work great for flounder. flounder belly (the white skin) works better.
the underside of the fish is what flounder look up to see from the bottom.
Ive heard of them hitting strips of white cloth
I can remember some of the old Salties up in Murrells Inlet and Surfside always used the white of the Flounder cut in strip bait. They said especially when they were fall surf fishing that was the ticket.
Be careful with trout and flounder belly’s. If you have bait but no carcass… and there are size restrictions… ticket ticket.
But yes it works.
