Had a good trout bite today. Fished from 6am til ab 230pm. Good topwater bite at daylight then on to plastics. Bite was consistent all day with too many fish to count. Caught prob five-seven over 20 inches. All the big ones were singles mixed with other sizes. My question is has anyone ever located a group of fish where they pulled more than 4 or 5 out that were over 20. It always seems the big fish are either hanging behind reds or somewhat alone. I have a couple spots where the average fish is 17-20 and you can get good numbers but I’ve fished these spots several times and never caught the 23-25 inch fish. Has anyone ever found a pod of these 23-25 inch fish grouped up?
I find similar results. Out of the 15 trout yesterday 2 were over 23, both in different spots…

I’ve found groups of 20-22" fish, usually in the spring. Certain spots (structure near deep water) seem to hold big ones more consistently than places small trout frequent. In my experience, the really big ones (23" plus) are either loners or group with 20" class fish, usually in the spring when they’re spawning. I’ve never caught more than one 23" plus trout in a single spot. Once they get that big, they really seem to act differently and do their own thing, sometimes crossing paths with groups of smaller fish. That said, I’m still trying to figure out the big girls and have never really spoken to anyone around here who truly has them dialed in.
What a day! And that’s a beautiful fish.
Big ones are loners pretty much. You won’t usually find them schooled up

Thanks for replies. One more mild winter and we should be in business. It’s been really good for trout the last couple years but next year could be epic with the large fish. My buddy has numbers to a spot 2 miles off beach where it goes from 19 feet deep to 3ft. It holds some studs during the spawn. Prob will never get those numbers before he dies.
Nice fish
That’s a solid trout!

Yes! I was fishing a Trout Tournament one year, started off with three cast! Three Trout, 5.5#,5#, 4.4#! Put the largest fish in live well, went home and waited for afternoon weigh in. Fish was weighed, and released! Won first place:smiley:
