Got out about 12.30 on rising tide. First two or three spots nothing. Third spot where I had caught a couple of fish a week or so ago and it was on. First fish on a trout eye with root beer/Chartreuse 4", casting upstream. Initially missed a couple of bites but sped up my retrieve and that seemed to make them take more aggressively. Caught a few, all nice fish, decided to try a cork with a DOA shrimp. They liked that as well, was getting a fish nearly every cast. Wanted to see what difference a light color plastic would make. I caught a few, but when i went back to the dark one that is what they really wanted. A couple of dolphins showed up, including one I see a lot with a cut off dorsal fin. That seemed to scare the larger fish away, but in the past when this happens soemtimes the trout move in close to the grass. I was lucky as thats where they were, but they seemed a bit smaller.
I had to take a work call at 4, but was off quickly and the dolphins has left. It was back on, had to move about 20 yards upstream at one point to keep in contact with them.
Had a fish come up and hit the DOA of the surface so threw a top water plug on and had one fish, but nothing else. Finished fishing about 5.20 with a fish on my last cast. I think this was my best day out, on the way back saw a dolphin throwing something in the air and playing with it in the main channel. Very cool afternoon, 30 plus trout and one rat red.
Thanks for the info, I will give them a try.
