Really wanted a big red off the beach. From Jeremy Inlet back to Seabrook, set up as I figured I should and casted back into the breakers -cut mullet, cut menhaden, live mullet, horse mullet (maybe a last tarpon?), 1/2 crab, quarter crab. Got a sharpnose off cut mullet at Frampton Inlet. Otherwise, tons of trout (and 1 weakfish). All on BIG live mullet. Not horse but 8-9" I’d filled the tank with for reds. 18" trout in the surf with no qualms about slamming 9" mullet on 6/0 hooks one after the other. When I realized it’d be trout, threw shrimp -nothing. Rebait with mullet, bam. Not one red and not at all what I expected. But what do I know. All 5-10’, 50-200 yards off beaches, 67 degrees, hour before and hour after high.
Nice way to spend the day on the beach.
