Has anyone heard if there has been a trout kill due to the very cold weather?
With the water temps. being below 45 for the last 4-5 days in several creeks and rivers, spotty kills are inevitable. We won’t know the extent of the kill until spring.
I’m about ready for spring anyway!
“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”
Is the State not monitoring this?
I saw a couple of dead ones in a small creek yesterday. Water temp was 45.

Close fishing maybe.
I’m used to the state monitoring the freeze kills and shutting down the season where I’m from…which is why I asked the question. I just took for granted the state would be on top of it.
Judging by your response I guess they aren’t.
They should be.
The DNR does not have authority to do so. It must be done by the state. Stupid. That’s why DNR asked us to not keep trout last time. I think the majority of anglers complied which was cool

If you see numbers of dead trout, bait, or any other fish, call DNR and report it.
They rely on us for tips. They can only cover so much water with the manpower and budget they have.

state shut down fishing, they will do this right after they close next years recreational shrimp season. cold winters have been ocurring for many years and we still catch trout every year.
Isn’t this what nature does? The strongest survive?
NC is shutting down the trout fishery on Wednesday of this week. Cold kills up & down the coast.
Have not seen this about NC. To bad. Do you know were I find some more info on the shut down? Used to fish out of the Calabash area. Thanks.
Just hearsay right now, but from a reliable source.
