NOT SURE WHERE TO POST. HEADING UP TO W VA NEXT WEEKEND TO DO SOME FLY FISHING. BUDDIES DO NOT HAVE FLY RODS. ANY TIPS ON HOW TO CATCH THEM ON A SPINNING ROD/REEL? THANKS!

Get them to buy a fly rod… other wise Shadowgrss has the answer…

I think Cabela’s has some spinner flies. Little spinners with flies where the normal rooster tail body would be. If they have them, I’m sure other tackle shops have them. That’s what my brother uses and I always abuse them with my fly rod.

check the regs. Any wild trout waters or catch and release waters will want you to cut the treble down to one and pinch barbs. Little trouties aren’t very hardy.
Good Call Toothless… I ran into that a lot in Colorado… get yer buddies fly rods and pinch those barbs down… if they really want to use spinners just tie up or buy some pistolpetes… woolybugger wiht a propeller in front… tie off about 18" of 4X tippet to teh bend and drop a small nymph on that… DEADLY combo for spring trout… they will hit both but I have always caught my biggest trout on the smaller nymphs…

thanks guys. stopped in chs angler today and josh helped me out. basically, i am good to go with my 4 wt fly rod. the hell with the other guys and spinning reels.
How about some corn for those spinning reels?
just kidding!
Agreed on that Nikon - 80% of the trout/salmon i catch are on nymphs. Unless there is a good hatch going there is no better way.

Joe Flies. Gold blade if it is sunny and silver if it is cloudy. You are going to need an ultra light rod with 4-6 lb line. If you want to use bait your best bets are wax worms, meili worms or shiners using a very small hook and splitshot rig… If it is a very skinny creek with just a few deep holes I love fishing bait on the fly rod.
you could use a fly with a bubble float to give enough weight to cast it.
we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control
Good choice to stick with the fly rod. I find the fly rod to be much quicker, more precise, more delicate, and it allows you to fish all areas that hold fish…not just the pools. You’ll catch much more with the fly after you get the short, quick casts down. Every rock and riffle holds fish and most folks walk right over perfectly good water and head for the pools. Mistake.
