Trout Trick Extraveganza

Three friends had a fishing trip that was nothing short of fantastic and one that will not likely to be duplicated anytime soon. We fished a half mile area of the Toogoodoo River and limited out on trout and reds. In five hours of non-stop action, we caught over 100 trout and about 35 reds! The best part was almost every fish was caught on the original purple Trout Trick. We started off with trout after trout, drifting with the current and following them on the outgoing tide.

When the trout bite slacked off a little, we found a redfish hole and spent nearly two hours there catching red and red until the tide started coming back in.

Conditions: We fished the outgoing tide till it was slack and then fished about an hour of the incoming. Bait of choice was the Trout Trick but the reds also hit mud minnows and frozen shrimp. A brisk wind was blowing but we managed to stay out of it for the most part. The sun felt really good and we were wore out by the end of the day.

The fish were really turned on and all the bites were solid, especially the reds. They pretty much hooked themselves every time. I am not much of a bottom fisher, but the trout were very cooperative on yesterday and I set a personal best for catching fish on an artificial lure. NOTHING would hit a popping cork yesterday. Count me a believer in the TT now.

It was a great day all the way around and you could not find two better friends to fish with!

Well done I recently went using the original trout trick and trout eye jig and they were biting really well just trout nothing else. I also used a zman slim swim in the trout trick purple as well and had a ton of hits some times I would get 4 or 5 hits back to back and I never have them attack artificial like that. I was using a Shakespeare 4’6 micro light with the stock line like 2 to 4 lb test which made it fun and a struggle. I caught a 16 as the biggest landed and had something I think was a trout that was much bigger but after fighting him for a minute he swam in the grass and shook my hook. If your considering trying a micro-light rod to put a little more sport or fun into it, its worth it. A 500 series reel is perfect speed for me with artificials. I did have a horrible hook up to hit ratio like 1/5 or 1/7 but I don’t fish artificial that often so I’m not sure how bad that is but I think its from the flex and stretch of the micro light rod and line.

Nice day for sure!! How bout leaving some fish for the rest of us!!!

Thank you, Sea Tonic. There was actually a trout tournament the day before in the Toogoodoo. We were in the zone yesterday for sure.

I know this has been a while back, but what kind of structure were you fishing? And did you put in at Steamboat? Any info would be appreciated.

Find some original trout tricks, wait for the fall-early winter.

May want to ease up on the reds…vessel limit is 6, regardless of number of anglers on the boat. Of course one could always say you had 2 boats fishing and combined fish for the picture. On a different note, that is an absolute beat down on the fish!!! Had to make for an amazing day.
