I had my first outing today with these new baits and am happy to report that they definitely catch fish. I was able to boat a nice sized flounder with one and a young sea trout with another. I spent a lot of time covering water and was learning some new areas so I did not fish as much as I scouted but I can tell you that the bites were both very much strikes vs. light takes.
Looks like we have a winner with these baits!
Setup with a 7’ M spinning rod, shimano stradic reel, 20lb power pro braid, 10# Sunline FC Sniper Floro leader, 1/8oz ball jig and of course this new bait fished with the hook exposed.
I flipped and pitched this bait along grass lines and drops and around visible cover then also fished it by casting it and letting it fall on a slack line out over deeper water where I had located some deeper holes on my graphs.
For any bass fisherman in here, the technique and presentation is very similar to shakey head fishing which is one of my staples back on Lake Norman in NC where I competed and guided trips.
The Trout Trick makes for a great setup and I’ll definitely be adding more to my arsenal. This is a bait a seasoned angler can use but it’s also a bait a new angler can use and not have to over complicate things with a complex presentation.
Just cast, flip, pitch the bait out and give it plenty of line so that it falls straight down and does not “arc” back toward you on a tight line. When on the bottom (if it makes it there without getting bit) just lift and drop or hop it back to the boat depending on what the fish want that day. Today it was a pop, let it fall, pop, let it fall then pop set the hook kind of deal.

I know Haddrell’s also has them. I picked some up at the West Ashley store last weekend.
