Its the buoyancy difference for me. The elaztec stuff falls with the tail straight up and down and looks unnatural. When they both are on the bottom the elaztec ones tail floats nearly straight up. and the original falls almost flat to the bottom.
Also they last longer in a tackle box/bag. I had a couple packs for 3 years or so and a couple packs of zmans and my zmans all melted some and got softer and sticky even though they were stored in the bag.
Someone should call up Gambler (original manufacturer and owner of 4") and have them make a 4.5". Cut the first 4 rings off the head as they just split anyways.
Until then you are at the mercy of personal stashes.
Whats the shelf life on these?
Gambler still makes a 4" model.
They changed the name, used to be called the Stud IIRC, now it’s called Shaky Shad. Dig through their website you can find it.
I ordered some of the 4" from Gambler. The diameter is much thinner.
Opti, that video is terrific. I hadn’t seen that page before.
FishingwithBob was one of a kind. if some of you newer guys aren’t acquainted with him, use the search feature. you’ll learn stuff. I promise.
Thanks. Its kind of embarrassing, as I did that on a whim because I was on a bite but I was by myself so the quality is crap. But that video has been seen a lot of times and I get good ■■■■■■■■ on it a lot. Need to do more like it I guess.
I’ve been meaning to give Bob a call. Last I spoke to him he was doing pretty well. I learned a ton from him. There was no better guide with children than Bob Sanders. He loves kids

Call Gambler and talk with someone involved in priduction. I’m pretty sure they made a slightly larger size years ago. They likely still have the molds set aside.
There is a very good alternative made by Roboworm which is a really well known plastics company in the bass fishing world. They make a “fat worm” in a 4.5" and a 6" version and the color “Aaron’s Magic” as well as “Aaron’s Morning Dawn” are 2 of my favorites. Roboworm makes quite a few colors that are not far from the original TT worms that I got from Bob several years ago. Maybe worth a look if you don’t like the Zman stuff as they are not bouyant and will lay flat as I have wacky rigged and TX rigged these worms for years and weighed some nice bags after using them. You can look em up online by googling “Roboworm Fat Worm” and if you get routed to Tackle Warehouse that’s a good place to see a variety of colors. Hope it helps with finding baits you might like that resemble the original TT.
Roboworm is my go-to for drop shot. My only complaint is how soft they are. Yes, that allows for great action but they’re rarely good for more than 1 or 2 fish, and that’s freshwater fish without teeth.

It’s not talking crap if you can back it up…and nothing can back it up better than facts.
Yup, makes total sense. Zman is the longest lasting / most durable plastic I’ve ever seen; no argument there.
I’m used to using a new worm almost every fish or every other fish particularly with small mouth or spotted bass as they thrash so hard they tear any worm up on a shakey head or drop shot rig normally along with the whole drop shot rig and sinker.
Fortunately neither soft plastic nor lead is super expensive and if I have a floor covered up with torn to heck worms, am out a hand full of lead, yet have a live well full of fish I am ultra good with that.
Another alternative worth looking at is the Reaction Innovations “flirt” 4" worm. They make a TON of colors now and their plastic is also non bouyant and is a bit tougher than the Roboworm. I’d not overlook at Zoom superfluke rigged the same way in Violet Shad which is darn pretty rigged on an Eye Strike jig head either exposed or weedless. I have some bass guys I keep up with that have been buying Eye Strike for a while and hoping the word doesn’t get out in the freshwater world on em as they swear by the eye as a shakey head and with the new swinging head Texas Eye the possibilities of rigging baits are endless.
I’ve turned a few freshwater guys on to the Texas Eye jig heads for swimbaits. The work well and add a great wobble to the bait but the overall size of the jig head itself does limit the size of the swimbait you can use. Maybe a larger profile/weight configuration for the Texas Eye is worth looking into…? I mean, they do say everything is bigger in Texas.
