Trout

Quick question here
I’ve been fishing my new-to-me boat pretty hard for the last couple week and have slayed it. Weird thing is two weeks ago, I couldn’t beat the trout off with a stick. But now, fishing the same spots, conditions, lure, everything, all I’m finding for the most part is a bunch of redfish. Not complaining but does anyone have an explanation or can tell me where the trout have gone?

The water has been cooling, and trout do move around. They are schooled up for the most part and you are either on them or you are not. Sounds like last week you were on them, and they have probably moved (but probably not too far). Also, perhaps you are fishing too fast? Try slowing it way down.

I think the trout have gone to the deep holes in the creeks. Try dropping 1/4 oz. jigs/arties off the ledge and crawling them very slowly across the bottom in 15-25ft holes at hairpin turns in creeks or where a big branch takes off the creek. Avoid mid-tides (water too fast to maintain contact with the bottom) and slack tides (need moving water). Use 10# or less line & a good, sensitive rod. Bites will be just a “tap”. Also, incoming tide has clearer water. Trout don’t like muddy water.
