Tons of mullet jumping a good amount of fish busting and I tried every artificial I had with maybe 1 one or 2 hits. They would blow up on mullet a ft away from my bait. I tried mullet imitations in all sizes nothing. This was at the sunset hr mostly and I know the fish were there feeding hard I just could not catch them. I usually fish this spot with success on the incoming with artificials but this was on the outgoing. Besides the high outgoing tide the only difference was the fish were feeding on the edges and on the low incoming they feed in the middle. I probably could of killed it with live bait and a popping cork. The nats were biting great.
Outgoing sucks right now for me except for the last 1/3. For what it worth, we had a good day sunday on the incoming low to mid rising tide.Fished with a buddy who used live mud minnows and I used pearl colored z man paddle tail on a trout eye gig. After the score was 5-1, he switched to the paddle tail and quickly caught up. Retrieved extremely slowly and left alone after the initial hit. The trout would return and pick it up after a count of five and the reds outright hammered it. Maybe 10 reds and 15 trout in two hours. Not much luck with a glow shrimp on the popping cork, trout trick or darker colored paddle tails. It was almost unbearable with the gnats but the trout were very nice sized so Im hoping thats a predictor for things to come.
Did you try to throw a plug? I’ve seen them not eat a soft plastic but inhale a plug.
I literally threw everything I had like 5 kinds of topwater, jerkbaits, twitch baits, vib baits, rattles, everything soft from 2to7 inches. At one point i was just terrorizing the water with a large topwater bait and had two nice size v’s rocket it over to it at the end of the cast right in front of me. That bait made the mullet quit jumping I was making so much action with it. The fish busting on the bait sounded huge with a few small ones mixed in. This spot produces everything but primarily good trout fishing. I threw till I gave up from nats, sore wrist and arms. The fish were still feeding when I left.
