TroutTrick Technique

I’ve gotten a good many calls and emails concerning fishing the TroutTrick.

This lure is presentation and rigging specific. Because of the jerk, jerk presentation also becoming the hookset, I have had kids as young as 3 1/2 casting and catching trout (with Walmart spin/cast combos).

The TroutTrick must be allowed to fall STRAIGHT down on a 1/8th ounce jighead (3/0) to create the reaction bite. With your rod pointed at the lure, reel in the slack and give a couple of jerks, then drop the rod tip to allow bait to fall STRAIGHT down again. In shallow water jerk sideways. The trout will hit it on the fall or pick it up off the bottom, hence your jerk becomes a hookset. We think the ribs create a vibration saltwater trout home in on. It is so strong that when you fish through a school of totally negative fish, they will strike with their mouths closed. Eventually you will foul hook one and realize what is going on. Because of this, I’ve located schools of fish I would have fished through with other baits.

I’m probably preaching to the choir.

When this bait starts working for you, feel free calling to discuss more subtleties in this technique.

Thank you, Bob

I was hoping to try mine tomorrow but the weather looks a bit iffy for me to drive down from Cola. Oh well, maybe next week. Maybe I’ll get a few things done around the house before shrimp season starts.

Thank you, Capt Huff, who reminds me that you throw the TroutTrick up current, so you can work it back with the current. Bob

I will have to try these out. Glad to hear Boat & Dock Supply has these in Beaufort. Love that store, those folks are top notch!

I bought some trout tricks early last week. Finally got to try them out Saturday. Work great. I even caught a couple flounder. The only problem i had is blue crabs love them too. Came up a couple times with half a trout trick.

That was probably a bluefish.

Yeah now that i think about it, it probably could have been a bluefish. I just assumed fishing around crab traps.

I have used trout tricks for a few years. Yes they are an above average artificial for trout, but don’t trick yourself into thinking they are the only one. I catch lots of trout on them but I don’t think I’ve ever had a day when they were the only bait that worked. I would never leave the house and only have them with me. Lots of great artificials out there that trout will nail, and tricks are definitely one of them

Where is the tail on that last redfish next to the reel in the picture?
