Well I couldnt catch any fish Sunday… so on my way home I noticed again my rods arent how I lef them when I left the hill, that got me thinking. I needed a way to transport my rods without them sliding and bouncing all around the bed of my truck. So I threw together a little rod saver system. Constructed from 5 1/4 deck boards ( two at under $4 each) and a roll of weather stripping for padding!

looking at it now I see a few field mods I need to do like, do away with the part for supporting the handles and making it the entire width of the bed and about 8-10 inches off the tailgate so I can run more rods the adjacent way…prolly do that before pool league today! Just food for thought for you guys who carry gear in their truck like I do!

I like that idea was contemplating doing something similar especially with my surf gear. Them spinfishers aint cheap I want to keep mine protected as well!

Made a few changes to the set up when I got home…

still need to get a little more foam weather stripping(which is tacked down with tiny nails)to keep the handles from sliding around on the wood. Oh yea the entire thing can easily be lifted out the bed liner grooves if/when I need to carry thing other then rods!

Nice setup. Now you won’t pull a Bill Dance and snap the rod tips off in the tailgate.

If you dont have a bed cover you would need it to be the other way so the rods couldn’t bounce up

That’s pretty cool. Nice being able to cover them up and keep them safe.
I don’t have a bed cover for mine, but made this cheap and easy rack to carry them. I can run a cable through all reel frames and padlock them to the truck when needed. Bungee cord keeps the tips from bouncing much. I put some felt strips across the top of the tailgate where they might hit there.

“Happy” to help! LOL:clown_face:
and I agree stono, looks like Larry said he can run a cable thru his and mine can actually lock the tonneau, and they are tipically only there to and from the hill
