Trying new plastics??

Because i can no longer get the shad plastic i really like for trout I decide to experiment.Looked all over the net for that shad mold and just gave up.I did try a new small white shad grub i found and it did not work.I decided to color the white body shades of chartreuse.I played with 6 of them with different parts dunked in color.Well I did 6 and tried them off the dock yesterday for about two hours. Results were only one caught trout.I had no hits on 5 but one got several hard hits.I also at the same time had a line out with live shrimp. That rig caught small trout as soon as i put it out.I now will color about 6 of these new plastics and take them out Saturday. They say fish are color blind but I doubt that.:sunglasses:

Saw an article in the CCA Tide mag that said that most fish do not see the color red, but they do see other colors. One exception is Striper, they see red.
I thought that was very interesting.

These seem to work better than most I can find. They are not in any stores that I have seen in GA or SC.

Have you tried the DOA cal paddle tails?Personally I have never had much luck with plastics but that is mainly because if I do not meet with success early on I switch to live/cut bait. I have been forcing myself to fish artificials a little more every time I go out.

Doug, I bought some of them but I don’t use or like them. I feel they are too stiff.

To me artificials are all about confidence if you dont think a fish will eat it then you should not be throwing it. I have some lures that I catch a bunch of fish on that I have people question all the time why I am throwing it. They usually dont fish with me so they never know what actually worked for me that day. We almost exclusively fish lures and have no less than 6 different rod with 6 totally different (sometimes 8 or 10) lures to see what works that given day. You just never know…

$15 for 36 Artificials and Lead, not to bad if they work …

but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Check out http://www.slayerinc.com/ I have had great success with the paddle tail. The paddle is larger than most and has has great action on a slow roll as well. Golden Brim is one of my go to colors. Just started using the stick baits as a jerk bait and they have been producing as well. Haddrells has them.

If you are trying to find a shad body most like the Lehi Eel, the Gotcha Trout Killer is about as close as I have found. Nice and slender with a small spade tail. Nice action…
Good Luck, O.C.

“Junk always sounds best.”

The Lehi shad was perfect for me.Just sorry Russ stopped making them. The first xmas tree back in 1980 went the same way.Just quit making them.I under stand time and profit so if it does not pay why make them. Still wish i had the mold.LOL I fish all the plastics and give all of them a good run.If i catch fish and know i am on a trout feed i switch off and try every plastic i own.If they hit good if not i put them away for another feed and will try them again.U guys that have fished with me know i could care less about catching fish.i have more fun watching u guys hook up.

O.c. I like those too…if you are talking about the one that is kinda bright green and clear. The Lehi bait joe is talking about is a two tone…not clear…kind of a milky green over white…short …paddle tail…I too loved those things, they didn’t last long when trouts hit them…but seemed to catch when nothing else did. I was sad when they were “discontinued”. I’ve started using my daddy’s fav…just a old time white grub on a red head…and seem to do well with those at times…andof course…there’s the old faithful electric chicken…

I have been catching them on the smoke curly tail grub with metallic specs. Good color for 40 years.

Someone mentioned stiff feeling plastics. Ken Sturdivant is a teaching Pro with BPS here in Atlanta. Years ago he told me to wrap them seperately in paper towels and nuke them for about 10 seconds. Great with Zoom Trick worms and Fluke Jrs. I just layer them and roll up the towel.

Bought 4 more packs and will color them up soon. Will bring a few to bessingers tomorrow
