Where can I go to try out some kayaks? I would like to try an Ambush and a Drifter from Ocean Kayaks! I found a place at Edisto Beach that has both, but won’t let you try them. Guess they don’t want to make a sale. I need a kayak that will handle a person of approximately 300 pounds. I surely would like some help finding a place to try these kayaks or any others ya’ll could suggest.
Thanks,
McKee Boykin
What are you looking for in a yak besides the ability to carry three hundred pounds? There are several that can handle that much weight, but they don’t paddle well. If you are looking for an extremely stable craft, but not all that mobile, then the Ambush is a good choice among others. If you want to get somewhere, then I would go with a Scupper Pro or Tarpon. I was two fifty when I got the Tarpon; I had room to spare and could have put another seventy pounds in it. It moves too.
