Ttout on the Out

I left the landing at dawn so that I could net bait and perhaps catch some reds while I was waiting for troutfest on the outgoing. I wasn’t too concerned about bait because I’ve been catching trout on plastic just fine, but it’s always a good thing to have in case. I hit most of my good spots on the way to some nice shell mounds that have been producing. 1 short trout was the result. We’re talking casting 300 yards of grass and three anchor spots. At leaast the day turned out to be way nicer than forecasted. Then the tide changed and I started picking up shorties on the DOA.The bottom rig went off and yeilded another throw rug. The big rod is staying home next time. Finally, I had enough and headed for the hill with the intent of stopping at a red spot. Threw live shrimp next to the grass and it was on. 7 cooler candidates in about 30 minutes then they shut off. It’s amazing that we run into trout sometimes when the window of opportunity can be so short. The key for me has been to have spots lined up that produce at different tide stages and have a plan to keep moving until I find them feeding. 2 dozen NICE crabs iced the cake. Trout were in 4’ of water again.
Good Luck!
