tube’s rock…nothing to rust out. plus the vice attachments are fairly cheap. ez to tie. the hooks are on the back (short strikers beware) and unlike long shanked there is no “leverage” for a hook to unbutton.

i think they are great. not having to use stainless is a big plus for my salt fishing. i have quit using stainless every where else but i would feel bad selling a salt fly tied on bronze. all of the factors scotty points out, plus if you tie you can work out a pattern on qtip stems rather than 25c hooks. im sorry that more people havent been experimenting with them for reds. of course the biggest drawback is trying to get a top and bottom on a tube. any fly that can be tied “in the round” is easily adapted but clouser like flies are tougher. it can be done but is a bit tricky. weed guards are also a challenge but you can use weedless bass hooks. and of course most importantly is the difficulty of the tube spoon fly. LOL. i use qtip stems, icemaker copper tubing, and swamp bamboo. hey maybe a bamboo spoon…

he’s pretty white for a fly guy

Q tip stems… BRILLIANT!!! Thanks!!!
