Tube Lures?????

After a few broken promises, I am taking the boat and family to the Keys this Summer. My soon to be 14 year old saw a saltwater fishing show where they were catching barracudas (in the Keys) and now he is dying to catch a few. The guys were using a “tube” lure that appeared to be fashioned out of surgical tubing and had 2 hooks on it. I am pretty sure I have seen such a lure before but cannot remember where. Does anyone know where I can find such a lure?

Thanks

You can get them at westmarine if I remember. I think that they are sea striker cuda tubes…

You don’t need tubes to catch cudas though. They will hit pretty much any trolled offering. The key is to find HOT water around wrecks. If you can get on an artificial reef in 80+ degree water, you will find them. They are really thick in Charleston in the “dog days” in July\August. Normally, when bottom fishing, they frequently swim right up under your transom. Don’t get me wrong, you can find them anywhere inshore of the big ledge, but I can pretty much guarantee you a sighting on an artificial wreck.

So true skinneej!! They will be EVERYWHERE soon enough!!:smiley::wink:

Those things drive the Cudas crazy! I have seen them in local tackle stores and they are easy enough to make if you get the colored tubing - again at your local tackle store. You can sight cast to them on the reefs and wrecks in late July/August. Trolling them works too. It can be a blast on medium action spinning gear.

Sounds like fun however, I am kind of limited to inshore fishing. Are there spots in the Charleston area where the cudas can be found?. Thanks for the info.

Haddrells also sells them, get the ones with 2 hooks, Cudas are famous for hitting stuff in the center. The reef buoys in the summer have cudas hanging on them, esp,4ki, capers and chas 60

DF, not sure what size boat you’re running…but once the water warms up a touch more they will be all over the channel bouys just outside the jettys. last summer i saw them from the 2nd set of cans out. some of them were just as big as any i’ve seen offshore and around the reefs, you can see them plain as day if you idle up to the marker and look on the down current side of the bouy. anyway, goodluck!

Last trip we caught them on tubes but caught bigger ones and juicy yellowtails on clark spoons.

I run an 18’ CC. I did not realize you could target them that close in. I will definitely give it a try when the water warms up. Thanks! I’ll try the clark spoon as well. What size spoon do you use?
