Left with plan to go out to 250 ft but a straight head sea made for slower going so we put in at 130 and trolled out to the ledge. Pick up a couple of mahi then pulled in and ran to 250 and trolled out to 226 hole and back in to 250 looking for something. Never found a weeline or temp change but picked off fish along the way. While slowed down fighting a dolphin the opposite rigger line bent over and we were hooked into our first billfish on the new boat. The key was leaving lines in when possible as most of our fish were doubles and pink was the preferred color. Best water seemed to be 300-500 but fish were scattered everywhere. Ended up with 13 dolphin up to 30# and the sail. Following seas made for a fast ride back.
Thanks for the warning Capt. I have been following this forum for years so I knew it was coming. The young man in the photo is on week leave from the Navy. It was his first sail. It was hooked in the top of the mouth and out of water for 20 scs. He asked for a photo to show his family and sailor friends and I was glad to do it. Figured since I had it I would share it and it would give the folks who like to ***** something to ***** about.
