Flip flopped the night before finally deciding to over rule my grandson and his buddy Drake and start out pulling live bait for stripers first before switching over to cut bait.
Got on the water right at dawn. Fished the lower lake and had a double hook up after about 20 min. One was a nice keeper.
We then picked up a few more, but all were shorts.
After that we decided to head up the lake. The wind was picking up the whole time and by the time we reached our destination it was really blowin. Started to pull baits and picked up a short pretty quick, but I didn’t feel like dealing with the wind, so we anchored up, threw out cut bait, live on the bottom and a couple of live ones we let blow back behind the boat on balloons.
The fishing was slow, but a steady pick and we picked up 9 or 10 cats and a few short stripers. Most of the cats were probably 3-4 lbs except for 2 that were bigger.
About 2:00 or so things got pretty slow, as you can see.
After that, we packed it up and headed over to Catfish Johnnies at Lighthouse for a late lunch and then on to the ramp to their waiting moms to pick them up…which, to be totally honest, was a welcome sight after 10 hours on a boat with a couple of 11 yo’s.
