Tuesday Afternoon PainKiller 10/22/13

Left the dock at 11:30 to overcast sky and flat sea. Fast run to the GT Hole in search of big fish.

Lines in at 1:15 - and action from the start. Tuna, small blackfin, to start the day. And shortly after, the way back starts screaming. Jimmy fought the fish for thirty minutes and then it spit the hook. Disappointing.

More tuna, then a bonita, then another bonita, then Maurice gets hooked up with a tuna - he grabbed the Visitor rod (you know, the County Line and with WTFB lines on the outriggers, as the Home team gets the flat lines and the center bird), and was tiring the fish and himself. All of a sudden, the line starts screaming again - really screaming - was it the man in the blue suit? We will never know, as we started backing down on the fish to no avail - the fish broke the rig!

We stopped and I cast to schools of tuna breaking the surface. I hooked a football sight casting with a popper! Then we saw a HUGE Hoo swimming under the boat while trying to jig up some more black fin tuna (Touche-Matt gets the nod for that technique) and a free spooled ballyhoo on a flounder rod was the ticket - I fought bravely, and after about 30 minutes, it spit the hook? Again, a giant was lost!

A few more black fin tuna on the cedar plug (never had success with them before today), and even a brown shark while pulling in the lines at 5:30 for the ride home. Oh, and the quick fight with a 8 foot hammerhead, that was the last action for the day.

On the ride home, we had to change a prop as the bearing wore away. Good thinking on Captain Jays part to purchase a spare set of props last month - otherwise I would be writing this report tomorrow evening!

All in all a great time was had by all. A few drops of rain was all. Yes the tuna were on the small side, but they fit easier into the sushi roll!

9 Black Fin
3 Bonita
1 Brown Shark
1 Hammerhead
4 GREAT FISH STORIES that got away

Not bad for October.

Tight lines,
Jason
