Though it rained pretty steady on the way out, it was a nice morning on the lake with Crabjack and Hunter. No trouble getting our 15 fish limit. The big fish was around 9 pounds with 4 in the 6-7 pound range. 8-9 out of our limit were legit keepers. We fished the forebay in 80-100 feet of water with downrods 50-80 with some jigging thrown in. I lost one big fish to a straightened hook on my spoon. Either got to put better hooks on those big Berry’s or loosen the drag a little:imp: That was the only disappointment… Good times!
Thanks Fogman. I had a great time this morning. Definitively have to do it again sometime.
We probably could have been limited out by 8:00 but we “paced” ourselves. LOL
Lol! We did a good job of pacing it with all legal moves, though I stayed at 4 a lot longer than planned. If that fish that straightened me was not foul-hooked, it was truly large. Guess I’ll have to beef up the hooks Sponmaster style even on the 3 ouncers. Flexits just don’t come with good hooks like the DD…
Jack, we’ll hit em again sometime soon! Thanks for the photos! It was a pleasure to finally wet some hooks with ya!
Use a 4x or stronger treble…I really didnt think it would make that big of a difference between a 3x and 4x but had at least a good teenager straighten a 3x in the dnr open. I learned the hard way. Have had zero issues out of a 4x.
Had a 35# fish put a 4x through hell at the hill and it never lost shape.
Good to see someone catching some fish. It’ll probably be several more weeks before the Doc’s will allow me back on the water, but they assure me that I’ll make a full recovery. It sounds like they took all but the kitchen sink out of me. I guess that leaves less to go wrong in the future. Fogman, I guess you’ve figured out that the big Berry spoons were what I wanted you to try earlier this year. They seem to be pretty good for big stripers. Keep posting reports. They help fight boredom.
You bet man! Concentrate on getting well. I’m so glad that the prognosis is good! We’ll keep praying for your complete recovery! I owe you a striper trip:)
