Tuesday we started throwing grubs and got one lone red…went on to MM and cut mullet and put 20 or 25 in the boat, no large fish but fun.
Wednesday I booked (against my better judgement) a party of 4 because a mutual friend asked me to…I did not know that only one had even a clue how to fish, which is not normally a problem, but try baiting, casting for 4 people from a flats boat…not easy. Missed a few fish at the first stop which was not far from the marina…15 minutes from go a friend came by and axed the question “Did you leave your truck on the ramp”…duh, no!!!..Wait, duh, yes. Jeez, thank goodness it was a falling tide.
Missed at least 30+ reds, but landed 7, plus 2 flounder…great guys, but I am worn out. Used 6 dozen mm, 20 pieces of shrimp and 60 pieces of mullet…lots of re tying going on, 20+ hooks and at least 30 split shots, but that is why I make the big bucks…Figured I had better tell on myself about the ramp deal before someone made an “old” comment…life is funny.
wow… don’t know HOW i haven’t done that one yet (w/the truck!). i’ve almost done the “crap, boat plug!” but never the truck at the ramp. greeeaaaat story. that’s going to be told over plenty of beers through the years ahead.
Now that’s funny Capt Mitch!!…Wasn’t it you, about a year ago, that reported on here finding an abandon truck on the ramp at IOP Marina and the truck was still running???..If my memory serves me well…I think it was you wasn’t it???

My Excuse…1 in 50 charters are early and these guys were waiting at the ramp 25 minutes before we were supposed to start. I normally put the boat in, tie off, park the truck and then take the boat to the fuel dock and pick up the charter. Since they were waiting I went straight to the fuel dock where they had a 60 qt cooler full of beer. Transferred that to my cooler, got them a parking pass, got loaded and left…never even thought about parking the truck.
This is a good time for a tip…if you book a charter get there a few minutes early. Most captains are usually waiting on thier charters. Do the howdy dos, go pee, whatever…then push off. The charter starts at the designated time, NOT when the party gets in the boat.
Most people would never dare be late for a $9 movie, but most are late for a $400 - $2,000 charter.
lol
BUT REALLY…nice report!
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
Now that’s a man completely focused on his fishing!! I have done the “oh sh$t…the boat plug” thing, and that’s bad enough. I have discovered one thing…do this long enough and you’ll have a long list of things that goes wrong before it’s over. Nature of the beast! Sounds like an excellent day on the water overall. Congrats!
