TUNA TOWN USA

Well i was finally able to find a full crew that was willing to open the wallet and make the long haul down to venice. We had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all Booked to Fish with Captain Rimmer Covington of The Mexican Gulf Fishing Company. (www.TMGFC.com)
With three days of fishing to look forward to I make the call to Rimmer to see how his Monday and Tuesday trips went and to discuss the nasty weather attempting to ruin our weekend. 10 tuna between 80-160 pounds, 6 wahoo between 50-96, and one 200+ Mako later i realized that bite was red hot, but that the weather was going to **** quick and that we were definitely going to have to cancel Friday and hope for the best on Saturday Sunday. To make a long story short friday morning rolls around and after speaking with Rimmer again, we decide to call off Saturday as well. It was decision time, was fishin one day worth the 12hr drive there and back? Well we gambled and hit the road saturday morning, arriving in venice later that evening, where we were greeted by a five star meal cooked by chef Alex Murray.
We made a game plan, and with a good moon we decided to wahoo fish early and spend the afternoon chunking for tunas…
The day began with a FREEZING 20 mile run down the Mississippi at 50 mph on his 39 sea vee with trip 350s through the pass where we were greeted by a surprisingly nice ocean, which refused to slow us down. We pushed out another 25 miles where we deployed the hi-speed plugs and began making wraps around various rigs which rewarded us with no bites, so we slowed it down, added the planers and ballyhoos into the spread… and were blown up by a school of black fins, which we boated to save and use as fresh chunks. With the clock ticking we decided to make 3 more warps around the rig and finally on the last past the left flat starts to screeeeeeem, 5 minutes later we had an extremely lazy 40 pound hoo in the boat. We marked a few more fish and had one more knock down, but that was it as far as the quest for the hoos was concerned…

NICE!!! Scott is good people! 4 fish over 100 pounds?? That is STRONG!!

How was the boat? I spent alot of time crawling through it but never got to ride in her.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.
