I was fortunate enough to spend last week down in the gulf with BugCatcher and others from Charleston and Florida for a tuna and snapper roundup. The weather cooperated for the first 3 days but then turned to crap just as we attempted a night trip so we had to tuck tail and run to the hill. We spend the bad weather days snapper fishing which was as fast and easy as our black seabass except most would get cut off by the sharks which were absolutely everywhere. Sharks are no joke in the gulf. All types. We didn’t come back with as much tuna as we were hoping but we all have plenty to last until next year and the snapper don’t hurt the freezer either.
Not sure what exactly happened here. They were clearly burning off gas/pressure but normally they use the tower on top. This shot straight out the side and they had to mist the whole rig with salt water to keep it from melting. This was as close as we could get due to the noise and heat. Those flames are about 200’ tall.
Capt Jeff stuck a fillet knife through his leg cleaning a 50lb black grouper so he needed plenty of bean bag time to recover. That man is tough to even be out on the water. Beer was involved.
Almost positive this is a boat that I was fortunate enough to work for a small period of time. We ran it up to New York several years ago. It was called something else then, so I assume that its been sold. But this is a 112’ Palmer Johnson and was a hell of a boat.
