Conditions seemed perfect, except for the fact that it’s November. I walked out to my local flat just to see if there were any reds still hanging around, and to my surprise there were reds cruising the flat! After locking in on one that looked like a good target, I made a cast, waited for the ripples to settle, twitched the dupree spoon and BAM!, I’m hooked up to a 30" red. After a short sprint to the thicker grass, it turns toward me. I get the red about 5’ away and off she goes with some jewelry. At that moment I was still in shock that not only did I see a fish, but almost landed one, and on Thanksgiving day of all days. After tying on another fly, I walked around the flat for another hour and saw 5-6 more fish that were hanging out in grass that was too thick to accurately cast a fly. Today was just one of those days that shows me how little I still know about fishing. I walked the same flat two weeks prior and did not see the slightest ripple from a red, and today I saw several. What an awesome way to start my Thanksgiving day. I hope all of you also had a great day and are suffering from the same turkey coma as me.
