Never hunted turkeys in a traditional manner before. Hey if the the 22 works… yea that is illegal or something minor like that.
So to decriminalize america, I want to learn how to call turkeys. Who makes good calls and where can I find good videos.
If a 22 were legal, the population would be pretty much wiped out in a season. I’m certainly no expert, but have called them in several times over the last few years. Like anything these days, youtube if your friend if you are trying to learn a new skill. If you really really want to know what you are doing, figure out a way to blackmail Stretch and get him to teach you. The man is a turkey whisperer…
The calls are like anything else and some are better than others; you can get a Pinto or a Mercedes…up to you, but they generally do the same thing.

I’m no proffessional, but tend to have luck multiple times a year. I carry an owl call to locate them in the morning, and also keep one box call then a slate and Glass call in my vest. I’m no good with mouth calls, but I can sing to a turkey with a glass call.

I have a Tom Gaskins my father bough me back in 1973. Sounds sweeter every year, or maybe I just get better. Yelps, clucks, purrs are all very nice. With a little practice, you can make different tones with the same call to mimic different birds. But the glass calls are very easy to learn and use. I spoke with Tom Jr a couple years back. He is still making the calls in the back country of Florida. He started helping his dad with them in the 60’s and is the man who make mine way back 43 years ago.
