Well Blake Stevens and I decided to accept a friend’s invite to Provo for a few days of dragging baits.
Day 1: 55# Big Eye Tuna, 90#er that get’s walloped in half by a hugh shark…estimate shark at 16 feet. I bring on board my first Big Eye; albeit, bad technique and think my arms are going to fall off.
Day 2: Football, 60# Big Eye and another that breaks the line. In the afternoon two nice dolphin bull and cow. Bull comes in at 30#.
We flew there privately and returned with over 100# of filets after all the sharing.
The best part is having Chef Kent at the Sante Fe prepare two evenings of meals with our friends:sunglasses:
We fished a beautiful 57’ custom carolina sportfishing boat with a great crew. Great place to go fishing with very good people.
Glad you and Blake made it back. Sounds like a wonderful trip. Are ya goona try and get the Island Girl out this weekend? I think the weather may finally work out for us weekend fishermen.
I’m sorry but don’t know what the salty rinse is except for water over the bow. Seas first day were 6 to 8’s with an occassional 10’. That boat had no problems with the seas. As far as the blue marlin; very few were caught. On our second day one blue 300# range and one white (don’t know the weight. We heard a report that at the DR 6 to 8 were being reported per boat.quote]Originally posted by seamus
Manatee Mac invited me on Friday. I’ve got family coming for the weekend and I need to try to convince them that going deep is the right thing to do. Finding a crew is always tough on short notice.

Roger that, I'll be fishing w/ Ryan. Not sure what he has planned, but I bet it will be fun! Keep'em tight and give us a shout if you find a crew Saturday.
Salty Rinse is a 48 Viking out of Jupiter. Owner is a good friend, fished the tourney wiht them last year down there. Boat is there for a few months. He said the Blues have not really shown yet. Nice work on the Tuna.
Thanks for the input. I didn’t see him and you’re right the blues were far and few between. The owner was fishing for one week straight with nothing biting. We on the other hand had a good showing. What was interesting is that the Wahoo were absent as well. I brought the Shimano Butterfly hoping to do a deep drop test but wasn’t able to. I’ll be giving it a try tomorrow in our waters.
