Has anyone on here fished Turneffe Flats before? I was thinking about heading there with my girlfriend in August but want to make sure there is other stuff for her to do beside fish every day? Any recommendations?
i haven’t fished turneffe, but i’m heading to belize in three weeks with my wife (family vac.) then again in fall or early winter with my buddy (fishing trip). you may want to consider staying on ambergris caye. el pescador lodge/resort is where we’re heading; much more for a non-fisherman to do. but, it is also considered one of the premier fishing resorts. by the way, they are doing a 2 for 1 on packages through early december. can’t beat that. i believe the fishing package is a little more than $3000. that’s for both of you and is all-inclusive (meals and local beer and rum). look them up at: elpescador.com.
been doing tons of research and the fishing off ambergris caye is amazing. the buddy i’m going down with for the fishing trip (we’ll be fishing off ambergris as well) has been to turneffe (last summer). he says turneffe is nice but mostly for fishing. his wife fishes. i’ll be glad to let you know what i saw and experienced on ambergris. i will be fishing at least 2 of the 7 days we will be there. the rest of the days are for my wife (especially since i’ll be going back). shoot me an email so i can reply with a report if you’re interested.

We honeymooned there a few years ago. Turneffe was too much fishing for the wife. We stayed on Ambergris at Banyan Bay. We arranged our fishing when we got there at the resort. The lady that runs the shop on the end of the dock set us up with Ramon Guerrero. Bones, Permit, and all the snapper you could catch were easy pickins. We fished together two days and I fished by myself two days while the wife guzzled boat drinks by the pool. We caught a ton of fish. Unless your lady is hardcore, she might not like Turneffe…Hell, it was too much fishing for even me. It’s hot as N U T S there in August.
