Turtle

Fished a little elbow of shem creek on a dock for about an hour tonight…While i was reeling in after a cast I was startled by a loud sound of something gasping for air. Looked over and right near my line was a large sea turtle, it’s head about the size of a baseball. It quickly disappeared and never came up again.

Didn’t catch anything but figured it was interesting to see a turtle that size in there. Anybody ever have this experience?

Wait till they are near you and suddenly decide to tail slap the water to spook fish loose. You will feel like you jumped out of your skin.

I am in the Beaufort/Bluffton area and see them all the time in the PRS and on the Broad River. The first time my dad and I saw one we were off of Paris Island at the rip and my dad said “is that a marine swimming out there?” it was so big that the head of the turtle looked like a human to him.

I’m from FL. Fishing an outlet to a power plant was one of my favorite spots in the winter. It was also a manatee favorite.

One popped it’s nose on the stern where my buddy was fishing. He nearly wet himself.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

You find the loggerheads near the inlets often. Saw one on Saturday near bohicket. Never gets old!

My buddy saw a manatee in big bay while fishing and he got so spooked
we had to leave. He said it was a human and it looked him in the face. I give him hell every time I see him.

We see them all the time in the Folly River. Saw one last week - it’s head was as big as a basketball.

Fishing in the St Helena sound this weekend we got something really heavy on one of our shark poles but it didn’t fight at all. When we got it to the boat we had a seaturtle hooked just inside the shell. Hook popped right out and he swam away. Must have swam through the line and got foul hooked was our guess.

Jellyfish balls are coming in which is kicking up the turtle activity.

We saw a big leatherback just outside the jetties about a week ago. Only the second one of those I have seen. Looked to be 6-7 feet long.
