TV today

I saw an interesting program on the Smithsonian channel today! It was about a boat in Greenland catching shrimp under the ice at 600 to 1800 'of water pulling 2 nets it caught 9 tons in 8 hours and caught 400 to on a trip and processed and packed them on the ship! Quite an operation!

Sounds to much like work.

Interesting that you post this BoatPoor. I received an order for Bait Binder from Anchorage, Alaska last week. While this shrimper’s use is for a recreational season beginning May 15th, the depths are also quite substantial. A certain number of shrimp pots are allowed in the Prince William Sound area with a fishing license. According to Will from Anchorage, pots are typically set in 300 to 600+ feet of water.

I’v seen the pots they use in Alaska to catch shrimp! Can’t imagne pulling them in from 600’ water, I couldn’t afford that much rope! Glad you made that sale, might mean a lot of far off busness

Wouldn’t mind seeing how they pull nets under the ice?

Rock shrimp and royal reds from Florida are deep water shrimp of similar depths.

Easy, the boat had an icebreaker bow and made it’s own way. It had an open stern with ramps to the water and 1" steel cables to the doors and giant winches. The nets had video cameras in it to monitor the catch! Space age ship!
