Keep in mind that I do not claim any responsibility for inventing this, in any way. I took info from many people and places to include Sami @ Saltywater and some folks at GTpopping.com. I will say that I have tweaked it to the way I like it and have tested many varieties of construction and settled on this method for MY interests, FWIW.
Forgive my ignorance here but what’s the advantage to these twistys vs say just leader material of same strength as the dbl line??? I understand that it’s very shock absorbent but is it that much more??? For instance if I made a twisty of 25lb line is that considerably more shock absorbent and abrasion resistant than and equal length of 50lb line??? Also isn’t it more visible and of larger diameter???

Very good questions there.
The #25 twisty you speak of would have to have a knot of some sort to connect it to the mainline. A twisty uses a loop 2 loop connection which is 100% where the knot will be 60%.
There is additional “shock” in the twisted leader. Since the line is not laid out straight there is an additional 10-15% of stretch stored in the loops or twists. Not to mention that the line is twice as long since it’s doubled so it is quite stretchy which is important when fishing very high drag settings. You would need a leader twice as long and that would effect casting distance.
The main thing to consider here is that these leaders were not originally used in light tackle(under #100). Visibility was not a consideration. When I fish for GT or Bluefin tuna I will fish double #130 to a bite leader of #220. Most of my buddies will use double #170 to a bite leader of #300. Usually if a fish is going to break the surface of the water to eat a lure they do not care what it is attached to, could be logging chain.
I have come to love the ease of the system for casting and started to modify it for jigging and bottom fishing as well, although these were not the intended purpose necessarily. I use minimum flouro with this system and cheap mono. For me it works. For someone else, maybe not.
I was going to say that in the clear winter waters it may be an issu
But if you used hollow braid and just splice the 50 into your 60hollow braid there would be no knots either right??? I guess I do see the stretch factor that would unavailable unless you single strand leader was much longer… I think this is really cold I guess it’s just sort of beyond my needs of tackle for the fish i typically encounter around here.
Although I could see some potential applications for light tackle jigging and trolling.
Always great to have other things to fiddle with!
Sd note how did you come to start a tackle shop and still be able to afford these amazing trips??? Entrepreneur gone independently wealthy??? Not hating just wondering…

To finish the thought. Your splice or insertion is not very different than a wind on leader. I would never just do an insertion because it leaves me no way to retie on the water. The only place I would do that is deep in a trolling reel where I was switching from hollow to mono for a hundred yards or whatever. The likely hood of needing to re-do that connection on the water is limited.
So if I am going to fish wind-ons or twisties with loop 2 loop connections for ease of changing out leaders that is the real question or selection for me. I have a hell of a time getting a good serve on flouro over #80. Get up over #130 and it is nearly impossible for me in flouro, mono- no problem. So basically the twisty is for HEAVY duty applications and reef fishing. I have just worked it backwards to local species.
As far as my financial situation goes. These trips are R & D…
awesome videos. a little over my head, but I understood it all after watching it. will have to be shown how to splice the braid, am I correct in thinking you cannot splice normal braid? it has to be hollowcore?
