So much for the good ole days when gas was 3.50 a gallon and unemployment was up, and the lake was dead during the week for fishing and somewhat manageable on the weekends. Now that everyone can afford to boat, it has gotten really bad.
Nope, Obama. Didn’t he get the credit for all the turnaround out of the recession?

Turnaround??? Which part? the part where they jived the unemployment numbers or the part where they added a bunch of zeros to the end of the Federal Bank accounts or the part where they banned drilling on Fed lands, but increased fracking on private lands … I forget exactly … LOL

bangstick, i had the same thing happen to be last year. I was casting on a school where some birds were, then quickly had two boats run up on me WOT, and of course push the schoolies back down. i left and proceeded to find another school, not 5 minutes later the same two boats did the same thing again, so i left again. This time i found a couple pack of crackers and started throwing them out in various spots, and before you knew it, birds were all over the place. i then left and found a school busting away from the birds. then i turn around and see those two boats racing in between the spots where i threw the crackers in for the birds. they scrambled for a while trying to figure out why they werent catching any fish where all the birds were.
If I’m posting, its because I’m sitting here at work, dreaming about fishing.
LMAO!!! That’s a good one!!! I am definitely going to the store to buy a couple boxes of saltines tonight!!!
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

hahah, popcorn floats good, that may work even better…
Definitely popcorn. Go to Cromer’s Pnuts and get a big bag. Works really, really well…

I dumped a whole box of Cheerios; the big box, in clouds creek. The amount of birds it brought down was unbelievable. Had boats racing in from everywhere.
This thread has gotten off track so back to what got us here.
A guy in a big, go-fast boat ran over a bass boat and killed 2 people. That leads to a discussion about how big and how fast do boats REALLY need to be on Lake Murray. I’ve said it before, but NOBODY on this lake needs a boat with twin outboards, NOBODY!!! It’s just a “my boat is bigger, faster, newer, nicer, (insert any big ego adjective that you want), etc. than yours” thing.
That being said again, I’m coming into Koon Landing Saturday afternoon and at a dock on the right side sits a big boat with TRIPS on the back. Triple outboards??!! On Murray??!! REALLY??!! WTH??? How long before there’s a boat with quads?

I see what youre saying Bowhunter, but if that’s what they want to do, that’s there prerogative. If they want to waste all that money on something to get across the lake in 2.5 seconds, then that’s their right.
there is also NO need to have a 600hp-1000hp car on the streets, but ive had them. that doesnt mean we should judge them or try to make it “illegal” for boats like that to be on the lake. my boat is only 21ft long, but ive had old ladies smerk at me at the docks and say “that boat belongs in the ocean”.
i had a pontoon with TWO merc 400hp racing engines on the back of it fly past me this weekend. my first thought was what an effing waste of money, but then i just calmly putted on with my 40hp pontoon and said more power to ya.

I don’t see it as a twin engine problem, as there are 17’-18’ boats with twins. I’d say more a size restriction. I don’t even know where they park the trailers for some of these boats at the landing on Murray.
If a guy lives on Murray but like to go offshore, I see no problem with him having twins on the lake. I fished the lake almost exclusively at night and had more problems with wake board and ski boats than fishing boats with twins. Mostly kids out in their parents boats busy “entertaining” instead of watching where they are going. Due to the fact that I fished a lot at night I put 16’ LED strip lights down each side. You could easily see my boat for a mile. I’d also move way out of the way of another boat, didn’t care if I had the right of way or not.
IMHO, I think the only restriction that would do any good, would be one that made the whole lake a no wake zone. But even then, there would be things that happen. There is always going to be someone who will push it to the extreme… Look at our roadways. A lot of those same idiots have boats. All we can do is try to stay as safe as we can.
