I hope you guys got out on the water this weekend. Not bad weather for December. To give a little preface to my story, it should be noted that I started tying flies about 2-3 months ago. With that said, I caught my first fish on one of my own hand-tied flies today. That, I’m sure, makes any fly tyers day, but the fish I caught was none other than Mr. Convict. I was targeting trout, so you can imagine my surprise when a 4+ pound sheepshead grabs my fly. And typical of a sheepshead that are hooked, they make that initial run (probably to structure, or maybe just natural reaction) either way, it woke me up to say the least. After removing the hook and feeling like a dumb a$$ for not bringing my phone/camera, I decided to release him with a buddy and several on-lookers as witnesses. Anyway, I hope you all get a chance to tangle with sheepshead on the fly, it definitely made my day. As for the fly, that will have to remain secret for now.

What kind of fly/color were you using??? Had one completely destroy a black spoon earlier this year, but came up empty.
