First, given their similar price point, would you go with a St Croix Tidemaster or a St Croix Mojo Inshore?
Second, when connecting braided line to a flourocarbon leader, which knot do you prefer or do you like a small BB swivel, like a Spro or Sampo? When tying a 20lb leader to my 8/30 briad, the know gets a little bulky and has trouble slipping through the guides and lord knows it won’t even think about going through micro guides.
Uni to Uni for the leader. I just put about 1.5’ in front of my artificial’s for casting, it usually never makes it in the guide, or just in the first eye so it isn’t really a problem.
For live bait rigs I use a flouro leader to a swivel.
They are both good rods but the the Tidemaster is the way to go.
2nd- Uni to Uni is my leader to braid knot of choice. I usually add one more twist to the braid knot than I do to my leader material because of the difference in the line diameter.
I like the triple surgeon’s knot that I learned from Mark Nichols.
It’s super easy. I’ve never had any problems with it and I hardly ever break at the knot and it will straighten hooks before breaking. I’ve almost quit using a leader now though. I couldn’t really tell a difference in my catches and braid is alot more forgiving of shells.
I’ve never quite got the double uni right. But then again, I’m always using the Albright.
I like to get a good 10-15 wraps around the leader so I can clip off the leader tag end really close. If you leave any tag end, I find it likes to catch and pull out extra line causing a major headache. But only when reeled into the guides.

Hmm, that does raise my curiosity. So you’re saying you go straight braid and forego the leader when using artificials? You’re not afraid of fish seeing your braided line or being “line shy?”
I started doing that because I’d get a nick in my line and I’d break off when I got a fish on. If it hurt my catching then maybe I’d rethink it. Most of the time the water is dingy at best and I can’t tell that there is a difference. If you’re using a popping cork though, don’t tie braid straight to it as it will foul up.
I have both rods. The Mojo seems better for longer casts due to the design. It is not made in the USA like the Tidemaster is. The Tidemaster has a great feel to it. Both work well.
Uni to Uni is a good method to connect braid to mono or flouro if you don’t want a swivel.
