tying for the troops for Christmas

Hey ya’ll I’ll post up some pix of the patterns I used in Iraq that destroyed the fish there but what I’d liek is for anyone who has some spare hooks and time to tie up some flies for the Baghdad Anglers Club and School of Fly Fishing. I was involved with these guys while I was there and taught several troops to fly fish. I am going to be sending over a care package of flies and any rods, reels, chestpacks, vests, hats, glasses, fly boxes etc that any one wants to send. You can either send it to me to be included in the box I am sending or if you’d liek I can get you the address of the current president and you can send it direct… Packages need to be sent out liek the last week of Nov to make sure they get there by Chistmas, I figure this would be a nice present for the guys and gals there. Also there are a lot of guys who don;t fly fish and the club does offer spinning rods and bass type tackle for fishing too, so if you have stuiff you’d liek to donate tot he worm dunkers and plactic chuickers same deal applies. I’ll be sending my box wiht my local clubs donations the last week of Nov and any one is welcome to sendme stuff to send them. I do need to hit up Chad for a couple KBF Stickers to put in there for them

E-mail me at ken.bergmann-02@charleston.af.mil for my address or the club pres address. Thanks for ya’lls help

great idea. give me a couple of patterns/sizes. i will start on task but you know how my mind wanders. it is always a struggle to tie enough for a swap that can all be called the same thing. first and last always have some morphage in between. swhy i like it i reckon. you reckon we will be fixin to have a STAFF meeting before you send the box? dont guess they have any rooms set up for tying over there. i got some feathers and stuff but getting them across that secure border might be a problem.

Great idea, Ken. Post some patterns and I can turn out some flies for the cause.

Maybe we can have the STAFF meetin before the end of Nov and we can all meet and drop off the stuff… Hutch… Don;t worry… I’ll get them boys them flies… Most of the sizes I used over there were about size 10 up to about a 1… think larger trout streamers… I got some tied up and I’l lpost them up as soon as I can get 'em off the camera.

5-7wt rods are perfect for over there… most of the fish caught are in the 15"-22" 1-4 lb range… there are some monsters in there but the littler ones are usually the ones you catch… The 2 peice rods are fine… I have been getting rods sent to me for HOW aqnd I have a perfect box to mail 'em over… ANYTHING you want to send they can use… Some one will any way

just clicked your heroes on water page. i was wondering if tying is used in any rehab stuff(mind and body). my buddy wrecked his bike and had a loss of dexterity in one hand and i set him up with a vise and rudimentary instructions. he said it worked though im not sure hes kept it up cause i dont think he uses flies. it seems like a good method cause it doesnt take long to finish a fly and it definitely has a learning curve that i am still on. i always have stuff from ebay lots that i wont use including simple vices.

Not sure… Haven’t heard of it being donew yet but thet would be awesome to have them tie some flies then fish them the next day… I f you send anythig our way it’ll get used for sho!! and we’ll set up a HOW tying night for the Heroes as well… We can bring it tot he hospital or they can meet us somehwere… Never thought of it… Good Idea Hutch I’ll pass it on to the other chapters and the National Director…

i know it is a good stress reliever for me. probly need to think about feathers and hair and allergens if its in a medical setting. may be a good use of all synthetics. MM will just have to suffer. We could EVEN do all spoon flies and poppers. LOL :o}>

I’m up here in the mountains getting my masters in Clinical SW, so I can hopefully work for the VA hospital, they got this thing called “art therapy”, if that works than tying therapy sure as heck has a chance!
