My motor pees great, has its original water pump/impeller, but I worry about the inevitable failure at a bad time. Chis did not recommend that I just change it for a regular PM. According to him, it is either an all day job for me, a $229.00 (? I think) fix at his place or possibly not necessary anytime real soon because of the integrity of this generation of Johnson pumps.
I don’t disagree that my pump is getting a little long in the tooth, but I am not rushing to fix a problem I don’t have. Who knows, maybe there’s not planned obsolescence on this part of the motor…
Of course, this post is the kiss of death for the pump.

Yes. Please bookmark this thread and let us know how that ultimately turns out for you. You say it is a 14 year old impeller? I wish you the best. i[/i]
I was well into the 15th year of successful operation on my Johnson 112 VR water pump when I made the mistake of posting aboout it recently. Unfortunately, TyOneOn had to chime in about my rather long maintenance interval on this part, thereby guaranteeing that the part would fail.
OK, you guessed it - the pump finally gave up today (fortunately with the ear muffs on). Since the pump was working so well before Ty***On said something, I have to blame him for this. But, even though he caused this, he was a nice enough guy to give me a link about SeaGrunt’s water pump change out on his Johnson. So, I guess that squares it between us.
So… next weekend I dive into the water pump change out. I will post back with pictures and a progress report. I bet those 15 year old bolts are just gonna fall off. I probably won’t even need a wrench.
No hard feelings, TyOneOn. Just don’t tell
