Typical May Pattern?

So I plan to take the family out tomorrow afternoon and hopefully catch the first fish on the new Whaler. I haven’t been fishing out on the lake since last July. Are they in their typical warm weather pattern? I usually pull free lines and look for busting fish between the dam landing and Goat up until sundown, and then setup on a hump in about 20-30 foot and set out the green light after dark with down lines. Are they still shallow, any particular depth I should pull through? Any other suggestions? I know the cut bait bite is pretty good, but I don’t do anchors. Just spot lock for me.

Thanks,

What u mentioned doing in the areas u mentioned will work just fine right now. Some real quality fish are being caught doing just that in those areas.

Thanks Chip. I guess the board has changed a little lately. I guess the upcoming tourney has people not wanting to share info. Shouldn’t be too bad. Just trying not to get skunked on the first fishing trip.

The last trip in July was a limit in 1 hour with my overall biggest fish on Murray. Figured I would end on a high note for a while, but 10 months is too long.

You have missed some really good Fishing this year with alot of big fish being caught. You will catch some big fish this summer.

Weight a couple freelines with 1/4oz when u go out. There has been a fair amount of teens caught this week on weighted FL’s and weighted boards.

Wife wants to know if I mind if she goes to Charleston for the night to visit our son and a friend of hers…Ha!

May see you out there. I’ve been fishing that area the last couple of times out and probably will tonight if there isn’t too much boat traffic. That corridor there can get pretty busy with boats heading back to the dam at dark.

I haven’t been bringing my light, but there is tons of bait around those points. With the light out, they’ll probably be so thick you will get a false bottom reading on your FF.

For me, about .5 mostly, but it’s good to vary and change it up a bit sometimes

Thanks for the tips guys. Boat fished great. Huge upgrade in all aspects over the old boat. Very happy. Not much to report on the fish, struggled to find much action. Got 1 keeper on weighted freelines in front of Goat, and then caught 2 after dark on a 50’ hump near the yacht club. No topwater, no bait that I could see or mark. Need to work on the sensitivity on the new FF, and get the settings dialed in.
