Since I am a beginning Urig fisher, any suggestions on how to store the things. A neighbor hangs them off the garage door rails, but how about in the boat (my boat doesn’t have a garage door :))and during transport?
Dang Randy, I thought that was my original idea. I have been storing mine that way for several years. I drill a hole in the end caps for drainage. When fishing, they are kept standing up in my livewell so they are very easy to get to. I use thinwall pvc pipe.
Just throw them in the boat and they will hang on everything around.(ha ha)
The above idea is good idea. I use the small plastic rubbermaid containers and stack them in there with a towel between the rigs so they will not tangle.
I also use the “offshore” type of swivels so I can take them on and off without having to retie each time
I would not have though you could get them in a 3 inch tube! Do they go back to their original shape? U-rigs certainly do present a challenge trying not to get them tangled.
What I do is grab two of the legs, hold together, let the lures dangle, then guide them into the tube. Grab the other two legs and remaining lures and guide them in. If they are stored straight up, I leave the top caps off. If transporting them or putting them in my rod box, I put the top cap on. You may have to adjust the legs a little when you pull them out of the tube, but it is usually minor. The u-rigs are very tough and will take many, many bendings before they start looking ratty. Even then, they still work fine.
I may hit Lake Russell Friday am and try and get away from all the boat
traffic for the 4th. I figure after that it will be family weekend from there on out.
